The "Notch" on phones is definitely the biggest smartphone trend this year. The essential phone (officially Phone or PH-1) Was the first to implement it( Yes not Apple) it was supposedly a solution to the problem of how to increase screen to body ratio. But the pioneer of the infamous present Notch trend is the Apple iphone X. But it seems OEMS Have hijacked the design and with most phones coming out with notches it's safe to say that the trend is here to stay.....For the meantime.
Without further explanation we try to outline the possible reasons why people hate or dislike the notch. These findings are based on research and personal opinions gotten from all around the internet. Check them out:
1. People feel it's a Wrong smartphone Evolution:
Smartphones have evolved over the years with more standard parts disappearing due to emergence of clever techniques to remove less used components. Like the long antennas to even the traditional keyboard.
Look at the info-graphic showing the evolution of phones and the gradual removal of components.
Now the goal is to provide a fully bezeless phone. With this advancement, the phone's front camera, speakers and front flash will have to either be removed like the antennas or find another position on the phone. The notch then comes in and takes a few millimetres of space on the screen and Boasts of a higher screen to body ratio. As Silly as it seems apple has created a trend that has set the smartphone market in a bit of a frenzy.
2. It disrupts navigation and vital information:
The Notch can get in the way of a lot of navigation on the smartphone. Worst if the notch is a tad too big like the Xiaomi Mi 8, Pocophone F1 or even the Iphone X. Although There might be an option to hide the notch, it still hides some essential information like battery percentage, Notifications etc.
The Notch also acts as an intrusion also, Mostly on devices with a 19:9 Display aspect ratio like the oneplus 6 and asus zenfone 5z. This is a blessing and a curse also. In games and certain applications it can block some on-screen buttons and disrupt vital information. But it does create free space.... Cheers.
The Android Pie Update is supposed to handle the problem of notches, and also some software tweaks can fix the problem as well.
5. Some People don't like apple:
Yes people don't like the notch because it is almost synonymous With the Iphone X. In the past Android OEMs followed apple in decisions such as removal of Micro SD card slots and 3.5mm Headphone jacks. Of course people believe if Iphone decides to remove the front camera some android Developers might follow suite.
4. Some People Find It Ugly:
Majority of the notch haters find it ugly. Some even call it Horns and Rabbit Ears...LOL
A Phone that comes with a notch has a unique design that might not really appeal to everyone. The reason being not everyone would want to give up a few millimetres of space for a large protrusion that basically disrupts everything.
Worst off is when this notch is coupled with an abnormally large chin. This can prove to be a huge turn off for buyers.
Thankfully Smartphone developers like Samsung have phones without notches. Although the curved bezeless screens are not free from criticism either.
So That Wraps Up Our View Of why people dislike the Notch.
